Chehalis recon and rain!!!!

Beautiful day, with warnings of rain by "this evening" so we headed out just after lunch to the Chehalis area.
From where we are, this involves a 50 km drive along the asphalt, to reach the FSR which will eventually take us to our destination.

The Chehalis FSR is in great shape...as one would expect from an FSR which leads to a Corrections facility. We pass Elbow Lake (see photos in other ride reports) and carry on towards our target; stopping creekside for a few minutes to rest our butts and adjust our intercoms.

Soon, we are lake-side and travelling north. The lake views are pretty much non-existent until about halfway to the end.

Shortly after taking another water-break...we arrive at Skwellpil Creek recreation site. The road down into the site is rutted and UGLY...not too big of a challenge when on 2 wheels, but I can appreciate what some of these people went through to get their vehicles down here!

It is beautiful and serene...lake is flat-calm and inviting.

Sun is shining...people relaxing!

Obligatory CRF shot...in the background, the visible scar on the mountain is where the landslide occurred in 2007.
It is estimated that over 3 million cubic meters of mountainside slid 550m down into the lake.

After leaving the site, we travelled a bit further up the main road to see where it ended, but there was a gate installed by a logging company shortly after the last bridge.
Took some pics of the upstream side....

By this time, the clouds had started to gather around the mountains, so we made our way back. Along the way, we checked out the southern end of the lake.
We tried to access this area a couple of years ago but never reached it.
We encountered a few cloudbursts on the way out, but fortunately for us, the real rains held off until AFTER we got home....then it poured in earnest.
I felt bad for all those who were still camping in that area....

Map of our travels...
